Making Content

This is the gear I use to create all my content

First things first….

There are so many options out there for cameras that it can be hard to choose which one you’re going to invest in. Growing up the daughter of a professional photographer who specialized in night shots, Sony has been the camera of choice in my family for as long as I can remember. I love their balance of features, image quality, reliable autofocus, and compact size. That being said, pretty much all the new cameras these days are more than capable of creating high-quality video and photos for online use. New cameras, accessories, and features are changing yearly, so what I use now may not be the best for your use, but these are the tried and true ones I’ve been using for the last several years and can recommend.

Camera Bodies

Camera

Sony A7 III

This camera is pricy, but worth it for the best shots. It’s the preferred choice of my partner and for good reason. It has a built-in stabilizer and 15-stop dynamic range, 14-bit uncompressed RAW, and ISO from 50 to 204,800 – this means it can let in far more light than other cameras and is excellent for night shots. It also has 2 slots for memory cards allowing you to designate a larger card for video and a smaller card for images. If you are serious about content, this is a stellar camera to have at your side.

Camera

Sony Alpha 6400

I’ve started using this camera for nearly all my travel shots. This is the baby brother to the Sony A7 III, but it has some advantages that make it worth having in your gear. While it lakes a built in stabilizer and has a lower ISO at maximum ISO of 32,000 (up to 102,400 for stills) it has a built in flip screen, smaller body, and the same 4k capabilities as its big brother. This makes it an ideal travel camera for vlogging, selfies, and more. Many travel influencers recommend it for its rugged capabilities and at half the price as the A7 III, it packs a massive punch without breaking the bank. Keep in mind, you will need to buy your lens separately,

Camera

GoPro Hero12 Creator Edition

GoPros have built a solid name for themselves and for good reason! They are small, rugged AF, and can fit almost anywhere and be attached to almost anything. The Hero12 is fully waterproof, shoots in 4K, and is the perfect camera for difficult weather, action, adventure, cool angles, and is the camera of choice for many of the most extreme travel creators.

Lenses

Lens

Sony E 10-18mm F4 OSS

Sony 10-18mm f/4 – A really good vlogging lens since it’s super wide and has optical image stabilization. It handles distortion fairly well and the focal range also works great for landscape photos.

Lens

Sony 24-70 F4

Sony 24-70 f/4 – This is the preferred lens by many content creators, including my partner. It is stellar with our A7 III and it has such a versatile zoom range. An aperture of f/4 means it’s compact and lightweight, but not the best in low light.

Lens

Zeiss Batis 18mm F2.8

Zeiss Batis 18mm f/2.8 allows for a wide field of view and a large aperture which makes this lens awesome for indoors, low light scenarios, and landscapes. It’s also super sharp, fairly lightweight, and easily balances on a gimbal.

Lens

Sony SEL85F18 85mm F/1.8-22 Medium

Sony 85mm F1.8 is an affordable, high-quality portrait lens that gives a really nice bokeh and makes your subject pop out of the background. My partner and I use this lens regularly when shooting in natural light.

Audio Equipment

Lavalier Mic

Comica Wireless Lavalier Mic BoomX-D2

I love Lavalier Mics, but this one is my personal favorite. It easily connects to my Sony cameras and allows for both mono and stereo settings. A lot of people prefer the bulkier box clip-on version without any wires at all, but they do not have the same long-range capabilities that this set has and I also prefer the smaller mic clip since you can easily hide the small wire under a shirt and have the same high-quality audio.

Camera-Mount Mic

Rode VideoMic Pro R Camera-Mount Shotgun Mic

Rode VideoMic Pro – I’ve had this microphone for about 2 years but I know influencers that still use theirs after 10. The built-in high-pass filter is great for cutting out wind and other low-frequency noises.

Accessories & Extras

Phone Stabilizer

DJI OM 4 Gimbal

I shoot a lot of content on my iPhone. With the ability to shoot in 4k, it can take some amazing shots when I don’t want to deal with taking the larger cameras around. But a Gimbal is something you don’t want to be without. I helps to create stable footage and also acts as a small tripod. It also has a tracking mechanism so if you don’t have someone else to follow you as you walk or speak, it will do it for you!

Camera Stabilizer

DJI Ronin-SC

DJI makes some of the best stabilizers that my partner and I have used. I will admit, they are a bit clunky in terms of size, but if you want some epic shots that will get you noticed on social media, its a must-have for the serious videographer.
